Thyroid  Imbalance

(Hyperthyroidism/Hypothyroidism)

The Thyroid Gland

The thyroid is part of the endocrine (hormonal) system. It is located in the form of 2 lobes at the frontal base of neck  and produces several hormones that control how every cell in the body uses energy (your metabolism).

The hormones the thyroid gland produce include Thyroxin (T3) and Triiodothyronine (T4).  It is vital that the thyroid gland remains hormonally balanced as imbalances of these hormones can result in the following:

Hyperthyroidism (thyrotoxicosis)

The thyroid gland becomes overactive (e.g. from an autoimmune condition called Graves' disease, which accounts for 85% of all hyperthyroid cases). It occurs when the thyroid gland releases too many hormones over a short (acute) or long (chronic) period of time.

As well as Grave's disease, other causative factors can include growths or tumours, or inflammation of the thyroid due to viral infections, ingestion of excessive amounts of thyroid hormone or iodine.

Hypothyroidism

The thyroid gland becomes underactive and there is a distinct lack of hormone production.

Other forms of thyroid imbalance include Thyroiditis - an inflammation of the thyroid gland; and Wilson's syndrome, otherwise known as Multiple Enzyme Dysfunction (MED), when the body is under stress from illness, fasting or overmedication.

Causes

Thyroid imbalances are diagnosed with conventional medicine through blood testing to find out how many hormones the thyroid is producing.  The problem with this approach is that these imbalances are the results of other internal problems so only the visible symptoms are being treated & not the underlying cause.

How can BioTech Healing help?

Thyroid imbalances are one of the more common ailments that we deal with.  Through our experience there are a few areas which we can look in to when conducting a health screening in order to find the root of the problem.  Each of us is biochemically unique and therefore our needs for specific nutrients vary greatly.  Diet should be the prime focus of any changes made, plus vitamin, mineral and herbal supplements to clear, restore and maintain the body's natural balance.

Food sensitivities lead to autoimmune reactions which over time can manifest themselves into disorders such as thyroid imbalances.  We can identify and eliminate these intolerances and/or toxins from the diet in order to restore health.

Overall nutrient deficiencies are considered one of the greatest contributing factors to the development of all health problems including thyroid imbalances.  We can help to pinpoint those deficiencies based on the screening results and start to correct these vital imbalances

Screenings also look at toxicity levels in the body.  When toxins accumulate in your body they weaken the immune system which can start affecting many other aspects of health.

Viral activity is another factor which we often screen for as viral infections upset hormonal balance and many other processes.
