Allergies are the 6th leading cause of chronic disease in the Western world!
An allergy is a mistaken immune system reaction where the body develops antibodies to fight normally passive elements. This hypersensitive response is caused by the excessive action of immunoglobulin (blood proteins that fight off infection), which leads to an over-reaction in which the immune system believes it must release more disease-fighting chemicals such as histamine, heparin, prostaglandins and inteferon. Normal everyday substances become individually sensitive allergens/antigens, causing systemic inflammation. (An allergen/antigen is any molecule that encounters the immune system and induces an immune reaction.)
Some of the most common allergens include:
Allergic symptoms can include anything from a runny nose, red, itchy eyes, skin rashes and aural pain, to wheezing, asthma, life-threatening anaphylactic shock and death.
Allergies are most often diagnosed via a skin test or a total IgE (immunoglobulin E) serum count.
If allergies are left untreated, it is possible that they can lead to more serious problems in later life. Research indicates that blood pressure, diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, arthritis and other degenerative diseases may be, in part, the result of untreated allergies.
Hypersensitivity to an allergic degree can stem from many factors, all of which we are able to address & look at.
